MAGNOLIA

MAGNOLIA: Mississippi Alliance for Gaining New Opportunities Through Library Information AccessMAGNOLIA databases, which are provided through the funding of the Mississippi State Legislature, are readily available for all patrons.  These on-line databases provide up-to-date informational, authoritative articles from both popular and educational periodicals. Most of the EBSCO databases available through MAGNOLIA are accessible both from the library computers as well as personal computers at home.  If you a resident of the State of Mississippi and wish to access from home, contact the library at (662) 843-2774 x114 or stop by the circulation desk and ask for the MAGNOLIA password.

Click here to access from the library or home, then click or tap on “Public Library,” click or tap on “Bolivar County Library System, Cleveland,” then just enter the MAGNOLIA access code when prompted. In order to comply with state law, as of July 1, 2023, users are asked to verify their age before entering their access code. Users under 18 will only be able to see age-appropriate content. The age-appropriate access code may be obtained at any Bolivar County Library System branch with proof of age.

LearningExpress Library

LearningExpress LibraryLearningExpress Library is a test and skill preparation website that may be accessed free-of-charge from any library system computers or from home. Tests and skills include: GED; ACT; SAT prep; GRE; civil service exam; ASVAB; skill improvement in math, reading, and writing for high school and college levels; and many, many more. These self-study tests are paced to the individual and are free to access through the public library.

To begin click on “LearningExpress Library” above. Under New User, click on “Register.” At the Registration screen, enter your email address in the “Username” box. Next create the password of your choice that is at least six (6) characters in length. Enter your password again to verify. When finished click “Register.”

This service is partially funded under the federal Library Services and Technology Act administered by the Mississippi Library Commission for the Institute of Museum and Library Services.

Mississippi Digital Library

The Mississippi Digital Library is the collaborative digital library for the state of Mississippi. Our mission is to provide an online space to search and explore Mississippi’s rich abundance of cultural and historical resources held by institutions and repositories all across the state. Emphasizing collection building and discoverability, our goal is to help our partners build sustainable, high-quality digital collections and deliver those materials to the researchers. We are committed to providing free open access to these digital collections. Made up of over 50 institutions, our partners include archives, historical societies, museums, public libraries, academic libraries and more.

The Bolivar County Library System has small collection of items from our Mississippi Room Collection available through MDL. Currently, this collection contains documents & publications from the World War I vertical files, including rosters of soldiers from Bolivar County who served in WWI. 

HeritageQuest Online

HeritageQuest Online is a genealogical database that contains not only the U.S. Census information, but also articles from historical journals and information from the Freedman’s Bank. Unfortunately, we no offer access to this resource, but with an MLC library card you can still access HeritageQuest from home. If you do not have an MLC library card, you may visit the Mississippi Library Commission (MLC) at 3881 Eastwood Drive in Jackson to get one. All you have to do is show your BCLS library card to get a card with MLC. You can email Alex Brower at <abrower@mlc.lib.ms.us> and she can answer any question regarding access to HeritageQuest.
